Commercial Conversion Mosque: Restroom

Today we will be taking one more look at the commercial Mosque conversion. Last month, we saw the design process and inspiration behind the Ablution room, the place for cleansing before prayer. Today we will be looking at the restroom that the ablution room is attached to. We will be looking at the color inspirations, as well as the design process.

As mentioned before, this Mosque was previously a commercial building. Now that it was a place of gathering and worship, the necessary amenities had to be installed. Before any work was done, a 3D model of the restroom was created. This allowed for the clients and the contractors to better see how the materials and layout would perform. This also helped give a better understanding of how to colors would appear with the lighting and textures.

The design of the restroom followed along with the décor that had been established from the rest of the facility. We continued with the modern and minimalist style so that the room looked clean and stylish without feeling too sterile. In addition to the Ablution room, another necessity was that the restroom had to be ADA compliant. All of these needs had to be taken into consideration during the design process.

As we’ve seen throughout the design process of this Mosque conversion, every extra step is essential. Even when designing something as common as a public restroom, the Ablution room’s unique need meant that continued materials and colors had to be carefully considered.
